So You Want To Direct Your Own Spec Commercial

When you hear the word “commercial” what comes to mind? Multi-billion dollar Super Bowl ads? How about those little 15-second bits before a YouTube video?

These days digital commercials can be any size, about any subject and they can be funny, sad, inspirational, what have you. However, these commercials are highly detail-oriented, executed, edited and by no means a walk in the park to make. In an online landscape that is always changing digital forerunners need a strong jaw and an even stronger portfolio to achieve their film goals and develop their skills. When I was starting out, I had the vision but not the technical know how to make produce what my mind’s eye envisioned, leading to some very frustrating hours in front of the keyboard.
