Next CreatorUp Lab: Sci-Fi Screenwriting with Dan Williams

Posted on: by Sara Akhteh

We’re excited to announce our next live workshop lab with Dan Williams on Sunday July 21st 10am PST! Dan comes to us from the extremely popular web series Asylum on Hulu, and he is also a graduate of USC’s prestigious Screenwriting program.

There’s no other place where Sci-Fi is more prominent than at Comic Con, which I’ll be visiting this upcoming Friday as the Ambassador for CreatorUp. Comic Con is literally the place to get up-to-date information about any/all upcoming comics, films, and video game releases, pertaining to a multitude of genres, but none so more than Sci-Fi.

What makes Sci-Fi so fun and unique is its ability to use standard writing techniques and apply them to a very specific and extraordinary backdrop of a world created solely from the writer’s own imagination. This, amongst many other topics, will be Dan’s focus: How to use standard story structure to build a world from the ground up; How to create memorable characters that will engage audiences from episode-to-episode; and, understanding story structure and using it to manipulate audiences’ emotions.

So, if you’re in the process of writing a web show, or just simply a die-hard fan of Sci-Fi, please be sure to join us this upcoming Sunday!
